Puuhonua O Honaunau NHP

A great snorkel site under the right conditions is Puuhonua O Honaunau (Place of Refuge) National Historical Park, south of Kealakekua Bay on the western coast of the Big Island. At one end of the Honaunau Bay is the historical park, and just around the bay is a rocky entrance point where a ledge provides access to great deep-water snorkeling frequented by turtles and huge trumpetfish. Because of the rocky entrance ledge, this area is also nicknamed Two-Step. The rocky entrance can be quite treacherous unless the seas are calm, so DON'T go out if you are unsure.
