Maui, the Valley Isle

Maui is called "the valley isle" because of the great valley that lies between its two major volcanoes. With its stunning and unique natural beauty, shopping, and great beaches, Maui is a great choice for any trip to Hawaii. Most visitors arrive at the airport in Kahului, near the center of the north side of the island, perhaps stopping by Iao Needle on their way to the south and west parts of the island. The south and west coasts include a number of beaches and great snorkeling, as well as the attractions of Kihei, Maalaea (inc. the Maui Ocean Center Aquarium), Lahaina, and Kaanapali. In the east-central area of the island lies Haleakala National Park, a dormant volcano with beautiful sunrises and exotic geology. And no visit to Maui would be complete without a trip along the road past Hana town to Oheo Gulch on the eastern shore.
