Oahu, the Gathering Place

The third largest of the Hawaiian islands, Oahu, is known as "the gathering place." Oahu is the most visited vacation destination in Hawaii, and for good reason. The island boasts the attractions and culture of Honolulu, the capital and largest city in the state. Snorkelers at Hanauma Bay, about 20 minutes east of Honolulu, can easily see fifty species of fish in one short visit. The beaches and gardens on the North Shore of the island draw crowds of visitors from around the world, especially in the winter when the surf is up. Along the central "spine" of the island run two rugged and beautiful mountain ranges, overflowing with overlooks and hikes. And, of course, the beaches of Oahu, including Waikiki Beach, Kuhio Beach, Lanikai Beach, Sandy Beach, Waimea Beach, and many more, draw thousands of vacationers each month of the year. If you're looking for a combination of sun, fun, nature, and culture, Oahu is a great vacation destination.
