Kauai, the Garden Isle

Kauai, "the Garden Isle," is the northernmost and wettest of the four main Hawaiian islands. Geologically oldest of the main Hawaiian islands, Kauai's volcanoes have long been extinct. Eons of weathering have sculpted the island into a round landmass with striking interior canyons and dramatic seaside cliffs. Because it is further north, the water can be a few degrees cooler here than at the southern islands, especially in winter. Although it is the smallest of the four main islands, Kauai is big on flowers, gardens, waterfalls, beaches, and spectacular natural beauty. Many people consider Kauai to be their favorite Hawaiian island because of its idyllic beauty and laid-back charm. (We can't choose a favorite! We love them all.)
