Kaanapali Beach and Black Rock

Kaanapali Beach is located north of Lahaina in the town of Kaanapali on the northwest resort coast of Maui. This is a great beach for swimming, but the main attraction here is Black Rock, a large lava formation jutting out into the water at the north end of the beach. The snorkeling around Black Rock is excellent as long as the seas are calm. People also jump off the rock into the water, although this is naturally a dangerous activity: do so at your own risk. Parking can be a bit of a trick here if you aren't staying at a resort on the beach; there are about 20 free spots available in a nearby parking garage, but these fill up by around 9 a.m. After that, your only option is paid parking in Whaler's Village Shopping Center nearby.
