The Kilauea Iki loop is probably the best hike in the entire park. The Kilauea Iki loop trailhead is located near Thurston Lava Tube, almost 3/4 of the way around the Crater Rim Road loop. This photo of the Kilauea Iki crater was taken from near the start of Devastation Trail. The trail is a moderate 4-mile loop hike that begins in the lush tropical forest on the crater rim, moves down the steep sides of the crater, goes straight across, then works back up and around to the starting point.
