Pahoehoe lava (pictured here) is lava rock formed by slow moving, flowing lava. It tends to be smoother than a'a, the type of lava formed from explosive sprays of lava. Trail to lava flow site at the end of Chain of Craters Road, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Big Island of Hawaii
