Another view of Punaluu Black Sand Beach. Punaluu means "Diving Spring." Freshwater flows out underneath the ocean water near the beach and sometimes can create an effect similar to gasoline in water. Also, tradition states that Hawaiian women would dive for coral here to make a lime-based bleach used to dye their hair.
