Makena Beach State Park (also called "Big Beach") is the main beach on the southwest coast of Maui. It can be extremely crowded, especially on weekends, but there is so much sand that there is plenty of room. This photo shows the beach with the island of Molokini in the distance. Molokini is a crescent-shaped, partially-submerged volcanic crater with beautiful reefs and often excellent snorkeling conditions.
