This photo was taken from the top of Diamond Head, the large volcanic crater at the southeast end of Waikiki Beach, facing west. The Ala Wai canal, which wraps around the inland side of the Waikiki area, enters the ocean near the green peninsula center left in the photo. Nearby is the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor. This overview tour will begin at the northwest end of Waikiki with the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor (just above center left in the photo) and work east and south toward Kapiolani Park (photo foreground). The pink hotel near the center is the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.
