Lyon Arboretum is next door to the Manoa Falls trail in the mountains above Honolulu. This is an outstanding jungle garden nestled among scenic mountains. Parts of it can be a bit overgrown, and you will definitely need a generous amount of bug repellent - the mosquitoes occur here in swarms. However, if you bring bug spray and a small sense of adventure, you may have a special experience hearing the beautiful song of the shama thrush among giant begonia flowers and other exotic tropical plants. Bring water, sunblock, and bug spray, and be prepared to enjoy some quiet solitude in this lush and tranquil place.
