Another interesting stop on Crater Rim Road is Devastation trail. (NOTE: This area was closed as of spring 2008.) Devastation Trail winds through an area that was devastated by an eruption in 1959. As the years have passed, foliage is reclaiming the land, but the trail still offers a fascinating opportunity to see how life recovers after a violent eruption event.
