Kilauea Iki Caldera from overlook at start of Devastation Trail. (NOTE: Devastation Trail was closed as of spring 2008.) Devastation Trail winds through an area that was devastated by an eruption in 1959. As the years have passed, foliage is reclaiming the land, but the trail still offers a fascinating opportunity to see how life recovers after a violent eruption event.
