Downtown Honolulu
Downtown Honolulu includes several great sites to visit. The state house is not exceedingly picturesque, but just around the corner from the capitol building is the Iolani Palace, the last residence of the Hawaiian monarchy in the dying days of the Hawaiian nation. Also nearby are the King Kamehameha statue honoring the first king to unite Hawaii under a single ruler and the Kawaiahao Church, the first church founded in Hawaii. Even if you aren't particularly religious, the Kawaiahao Church is worth a visit for history buffs because the building is a fascinating construction made from hewn reef blocks. Also, many Hawaiian monarchs were active in the church, and several of the royalty are buried on its grounds. Click a photo in the box to the right to explore downtown Honolulu.
