An hour north of Kona is Hapuna Beach State Park, on the South Kohala coast. This is the best swimming beach on the Big Island by many accounts. The water was crystal clear, and the sand was perfect! The Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel is visible in the distance, but there is also plenty of parking and a huge park area with showers, restrooms, and picnic tables for the general public.
