Waipio Valley is an isolated valley on the northeast coast of the island. The valley still doesn't have electricity, and many ancient Hawaiian practices continue there. The grey sand beach at the bottom is alluring, but requires a long journey down a very steep and slippery dirt road (4x4 required).
