Before driving south through the center of the island to head back to Waikiki, be sure to stop in Haleiwa on the north shore for great shave ice at Matsumoto's. If you think shave ice is like a snow cone, you are absolutely wrong. The ice is much finer, the flavors less sappy and more fruity-rich, and you can get shave ice with ice cream and special Japanese sugared beans (Azuki) in the bottom.
