About a mile past the park entrance is the park headquarters. This is a good place to stop, use the restrooms, visit the small gift shop, and view the displays inside. Near the park headquarters parking lot we spot our first silversword plant. The silversword is a plant endemic to Hawaii, meaning it is found nowhere else. It only grows on the slopes of Haleakala on Maui and the mountains of the Big Island of Hawaii.
