We have now reached the rim of the Haleakala volcanic crater. Looking east across the crater, a number of cinder cones are visible below. Haleakala has had very little activity in the last several thousand years and may now be extinct, but it was once as active as some of the volcanoes on the Big Island are today. Leleiwi Overlook, Haleakala National Park, Maui.
