If you drive to Honolua Bay, the shore entrance is via a brief hike through the green woods in this photo onto the gravely shore. Once in the water, you should snorkel to the right to get to the best reef area. Snorkeling is only possible here on calm summer days. If you see waves, or you don't see any tour boats, chances are that conditions are not safe for swimming, or that the visibility is low. In the winter, Honolua can be a great place to watch expert surfers when the conditions are right.
