Continuing our counterclockwise trip around the island brings us up to Hilo. Hilo is approximately the same latitude as Kailua-Kona, but on the windward (eastern) side of the island. As a result, Hilo gets much, much more rain than Kona does. Most of the sun-seekers avoid this area, but the rain does result in lush tropical vegetation and stunning waterfalls. Also, Hilo has a vibrant farmer's market and some interesting cultural spots.
