Mauna Kea Observatories
A slippery gravel road leads up to the very top section of the mountain, where research organizations from around the world have built observatories. In the observation area near the summit, all the roads are paved to reduce dust. Visitors are asked to leave the summit by shortly after sunset in order to reduce light pollution from headlights in the area. Mauna Kea summit area, showing observatories, Big Island of Hawaii |
